How to clear browser cookies

Your notes are stored in the same bucket as cookies and site data. That means clearing one clears the other — so read this before you tidy up your browser.

Do this first. If there is anything in the notepad you want to keep, open it and press Ctrl + S to download a .txt copy. Once site data is cleared, there is no way to recover the stored text.

What "clearing cookies" actually removes

Modern browsers group several kinds of local storage under cookies and site data:

Storage typeContains your notes?
CookiesNo — Inkpad sets none
localStorageYes — this is where documents live
sessionStorageNo — not used
IndexedDB / Cache StorageNo — not used

So a "clear all site data" action wipes your notes, while clearing cookies alone may not if your browser treats them separately.

Chrome (desktop)

  1. Open chrome://settings/content/all and search for this site.
  2. Select it and choose Delete to remove just this site's data.
  3. Alternatively, Ctrl + Shift + Delete opens the general dialog — set the range to All time and tick Cookies and other site data.

Firefox

  1. Open about:preferences#privacy.
  2. Under Cookies and Site Data choose Manage Data… and remove this site.
  3. Or use Clear Data… for everything at once.

Safari (macOS and iOS)

  1. macOS: Safari → Settings → Privacy → Manage Website Data…
  2. iOS: Settings → Safari → Advanced → Website Data

Edge, Opera and others

The wording differs but the path is the same: look for Cookies and site permissions or Site settings, then find this domain in the list and remove its data.

Private or incognito windows

Everything works normally in a private window, but the storage area is temporary. It is discarded when you close the last private tab, so notes typed there will not survive.

How to tell whether your notes are still saved

Look at the bottom-right of the editor's status bar. It shows Saved with the time of the last write. If it says something else — for instance a warning that browser storage is full — the most recent changes may not have been committed.
